Come Away With Me

Scripture:
“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Observation:
This week, Pastor Steve reminded us that prayer isn’t meant to be reactive; it’s meant to be relational. Jesus didn’t pray only when things were hard—He often withdrew to be with the Father. “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16). Prayer was His lifestyle, not His last resort. I’m realizing, in my own life, how easy it is to pray occasionally—when decisions are heavy, emotions are high, or answers feel urgent. But Scripture shows us that peace, clarity, and strength are most often found in consistent communion, not just in crisis moments. When prayer becomes regular and I am intentional with my time with God, my heart stays soft, my mind stays anchored, peace overflows, and I’m able to hear Him more clearly. “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You” (Isaiah 26:3).

Application:
This week, let us choose to set aside time for God; to come away with Him daily, even if it’s brief. Instead of waiting for the “right moment,” let’s create space on purpose; morning, midday, or night, simply to talk with Him, listen, and allow Him to realign our heart. We all live busy lives. Whether it’s the job, the kids, serving at church, something is always vying for our attention. We must purpose in our hearts to find time alone with God—to unbusy ourselves, silence distractions, and just be still and sit in His presence. As Pastor Steve said, “there is something about determining to have formal time with God. You can pray in line at Dunkin’ Donuts. You can pray in your car. You can pray while washing the dishes–and there is power in those times too–but there should be a time where you have formal prayer time with God.” I want prayer to be the fire that stays burning, not something I reignite only when life feels out of control.

Prayer:
Father God, thank You for inviting us into constant connection with You. Teach us to pray without ceasing, not out of obligation, but out of love. Help us to slow down—to withdraw from the noise, and keep our minds stayed on You. Search our hearts, realign our thoughts, and lead us in the way of everlasting. Let our lives reflect a steady, surrendered walk with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
