Be Transformed
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is, his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Transformation begins, first, in the mind, eventually flowing its way to the heart. It is not just about a change in our circumstances, but allowing Him to change the way we think, respond, heal, and live.
I have walked through seasons of deep heartbreak, immense disappointment, great uncertainty, and excruciating change. Recently, I experienced the pain of loving someone, believing in what could be, and having to let go of what I thought my future would look like. I have learned that just because I want something, love someone deeply or see potential in a situation, does not mean it is what God has for me.
In these seasons of rebuilding, growing, so much changes — both around us and in us. But God is faithful to remind us that a new life cannot be built with an old mindset. We cannot keep looking backward for answers when He is calling us forward in faith.
The world says to seek validation, chase what we want and find comfort in the familiar. But God calls us to surrender, to trust His timing, and seek His will above our own desires. Renewing the mind means refusing to let past hurts dictate the future. Disappointment doesn’t define worth. It takes believing what God says about us when our feelings tell us otherwise.
Transformation is not comfortable. It sometimes comes with the pain of releasing people, letting go of expectations, and laying down desires we prayed would work out differently. But obedience is never a loss when it brings us closer to God.
Healing requires more than time. It requires us to renew our mind daily — to let go of other people's choices or the need to understand or force a situation to become what we hoped for. How we respond, where we place our attention, and whose voice we allow to guide us — this is all up to us.
This requires us to stop looking for proof that we mattered to people or were valued in places where God already showed us our worth. It’s choosing not to reopen doors that He already led us to close. It’s protecting peace, honoring the commitments made to Him, trusting that obedience today is preparing our tomorrow.
We must work to be intentional about who we are becoming. In work, in relationships, at home, and in service to God, our decisions should reflect His character over our emotions. We can be a people whom are led by wisdom, a people who love others without losing ourselves, and a people who serve faithfully without needing recognition.
We may not ever understand each part of our journey, but we do not need to have every answer to take the next faithful step. Our responsibility is to surrender our own plans and allow God to transform our hearts so that, in time, we can recognize His will more clearly. We will not go backward just because the past feels familiar, instead we will move forward, knowing that He who began a good work in us, will carry the through to completion.
